According to the Fisheries Department's announcement, the production of flowery crabs (Charybdis Feriatus) in New Taipei City in 2014-2017 is 145, 120, 174, and 290 metric tons respectively. The consumption in northern Taiwan is conservatively estimated to be about 1 million per year (assuming each weight is half a kilogram). In the 2018 Wanli Crab Festival, flowery crabs cost more than NT$750 per kilogram. LDMB is currently introducing female crabs for artificial breeding, and mass production is conservatively estimated to be successful within three years.
