2004 Plectropomus leopardus , The world's first success and mass production

Leopard Coral Grouper (Plectropomus Leopardus) has a Chinese common name of 7 Star Grouper or Red Stripes. They are produced in Southeast Asia and in Great 8arrier Reef of Australia. The markets are live fish for Hong Kong and Mainland China and chilled fishes are for Taiwan, China and Japan. People on Hong Kong favor Leopard Coral Grouper with daily consumption of 8 tons and this reduces the natural resources greatly. In 1995, Australia lifted the ban of export of Leopard Coral Grouper to Hong Kong. Presently the Leopard Coral Grouper from the Philippines has the highest price tag as the color is heavier than that of Australia.

With the great increase of demand in Mainland China market and we found that the production in Australia waters reduced in large scale, we believe that Leopard Coral Grouper supply will definitely rely on cultivation. As this species is not suitable for land side pond cultivation but for net cage cultivation. After long time observation, we found there are a few conditions for incubating Leopard Coral Grouper:

Clear water quality, water current shali not be rush and water temperature shali not be lower than 20°C and water depth shali be 20 meter deep. Only with the above conditions can there be good Leopard Coral Grouper be grown and win good price. After years research, this species is finaliy entered mass production successful in April, 2004 .
