1998 Snubnose Pompano world no.1 mass production
Snubnose Pompano (Trachinotus Blochii) is divided into two group, long fin and short fin. In the early days, cultivation of long fin Snubnose Pompano was developed in Taiwan but the long fin group is suitable for cultivation in sub-tropical area and they cannot pass winter in colder area.
Cultivated short fin Snubnose Pompano has strong resistance to environment. It can fit in cold area with water temperature of 10°C .and it grows fast and in 6 to 7 months, it grows to 1 Taiwanese Catty.
This species is most suitable for net cage cultivation in coastal mainland China. Presently we have fry of this species in mass production and are sufficient to meet the needs of net cage cultivation in coastal mainland China, this is also include the demands from SoutheastAsia. We have pushed into Japanese market and it is very likely that market in next year will be much bigger.
After being admitted into of WTO in 2002, we plan to be the first Taiwan company to mass produce eggs of Snubnose Pompano. Only in this way will cultivation industry in Taiwan will have the competition edge. We have presently mass produced this species and it brought great hope for cultivation operators in Mainland China and Malaysia.
